Projects by Mika Heinonen
Independent product builder in Finland, focused on practical, well-designed software.
My work combines technical curiosity, product thinking and a strong interest in software that genuinely improves everyday life. Rather than chasing trends or building disposable prototypes, I focus on tools that feel clear, useful and thoughtfully made.
Most of what I ship lives on Apple platforms, from iPhone and Apple Watch to widgets and Live Activities. When a problem is better solved in the browser, like Plant Passport Ops, I build for the web with the same attention to detail.
AI is a core part of how I work. I use it deliberately and efficiently, which lets me move fast both when building something new and when improving or fixing what already exists. I also bring years of experience from the other side of the model, training and evaluating AI models for companies such as Outlier. That includes AI red teaming and LLM safety evaluation: writing adversarial prompts that try to get a language model to give answers it should refuse, so those gaps are found and fixed before release.
- Plant Passport Ops: Plant passport labels from online orders, printed and archived in minutes.
- SpotVahti: Monitoring spot-price-based electricity in a useful and approachable way.
- Between The Sets: A strength training app built with a serious focus on progression and usability.
- Upmend: A home maintenance planner that helps keep your home in good condition.
- JobFold: An iPhone-first operations app for solo service business owners, from first quote to paid invoice.
I'm also available for AI red teaming and LLM safety evaluation projects: adversarial prompting to find where a model gives answers it should not, alongside model training and evaluation work.
