Overview
Nourdy is an iPhone app that helps families check whether a food or a cosmetic product fits their situation: pregnancy, a baby or a young child, in Finland, Sweden, Norway or Denmark. People can search by name, scan a barcode or read an ingredient label, and get a clear Avoid, OK with conditions or Not enough information answer with the official source and the details worth checking.
Why it exists
Food advice during pregnancy and early childhood is scattered across authority websites, differs between the Nordic countries and is hard to look up in a shop aisle. Parents end up searching forums or guessing.
Nourdy was designed to give a calm, conservative answer in seconds, tied to the person's own country and life stage, and to say plainly when there isn't enough information instead of pretending to know.
Product decisions
- Country and life stage first. Onboarding asks who the check is for and in which country, including the due date during pregnancy, so every answer follows the right national guidance instead of a generic rule.
- Sources, not opinions. Each result names the authority behind it, such as the Finnish Food Authority, with the date it was last checked. When no clear public guidance exists, the app says Not enough information.
- Three ways to check. Manual search with names in all Nordic languages and English, barcode lookup through Open Food Facts, and on-device text recognition for ingredient labels cover the moments people actually need an answer.
- Nordic Compare. The same food can be advised differently in each Nordic country. Nordic Compare shows the guidance side by side, which is useful for families who move between countries or shop abroad.
- Careful language by design. Copy avoids claims like safe or guaranteed and always reminds that the app is general guidance, not medical advice, so it stays trustworthy and App Review safe.
Outcome
Nourdy brings Nordic food and cosmetics guidance for family stages into one quiet, source-backed app in five languages. Manual search and basic guidance stay free, and Premium adds unlimited scanning, saved checks and Nordic Compare. It is built with SwiftUI and on-device Vision text recognition and is being prepared for its first App Store release.
